Colorado homeowners are opting for conservation and loving the results.

(Switching Fashion Editorial):- Littleton, Colorado Jun 4, 2024 (Issuewire.com) – Colorado homeowners are opting for conservation and loving the results.

More and more homeowners are opting for clover lawns over traditional high-maintenance grass for conservation, less waste, and less water usage. The Daye Cruz Co., a property management company with homes in Denver, Littleton and Iowa, has noticed the demand increase for drought tolerant clover lawns. The benefits they actually realize are far more than conservation, including financial and time savings. Receiving kudos from Jefferson and Denver Counties and support and protection from the National Wildlife Federation, a government-backed organization that offers certifications for yards that serve the native flora and fauna.

More on Switching Fashion:

Bumble bees, ladybugs, hummingbirds, bunnies, garden snakes, finches, and more, are flocking to these new suburban oases.

“I converted my grass lawn into clover last spring and even in that first year I realized a financial and ecological benefit, not to mention the time savings,” says Crystal S, a Littleton homeowner. “Since I planted clover last year, I’ve seen a drastic reduction in my lawn’s water needs, the science-backed realization of improved soil, (hello fixed nitrogen and water retention), drastically fewer weeds, and my personal favorite, less pests.”

Science supports the claim of improved soil, less water usage, fewer unwanted weeds, and fewer pests. Clover, being a legume, can fix nitrogen, and having a combination root system means they can pull water from much deeper than grass, requiring an average of 30% less than traditional lawns. Just by nature of attracting a richer ecosystem is enough to reduce pests.

Local jurisdictions have taken notice too, Denver and Jefferson Counties have long touted the benefit of converting traditional lawns into mini-wild-life sanctuaries. They are pointing to evidence of a smaller carbon footprint, less mowing, virtually no need for fertilizer or chemical intervention, and a real benefit to wildlife – including species at risk, such as bumble bees.

“My yard qualified for protection and certification from the National Wildlife Federation. A government-backed and funded organization aimed at the conservation of native habitats. The ordinance protection of my yard serves as a beacon to like-minded neighbors, who might join in on the fun.” Crystal continued.

Realtors are seeing building interest as well. Buyers are attracted to the economic and conservation benefits and of course, the low-maintenance nature of clover lawns. This increased demand was showcased in a recent article in US News Real Estate: “Homeowners looking for a landscape solution that is easy to grow, drought tolerant, and good for pollinators are turning toward clover… they say it is widely considered an environmentally friendly option that returns year after year, making this perennial a win for most lawn enthusiasts…”

Forecasters predict clover lawns only stand to become more and more popular over the years, as more and more buyers and homeowners take responsibility for their carbon footprint and the community’s health.
