The first full-length trailer of Moana 2 has been released and Dwayne Johnson has said “It’s time to set sail”. This is the sequel to 2016’s Disney Moana and its story revolves around an adventurous Polynesian teenage girl who goes on a daring mission across the ocean to save her people. After the trailer of the second part is released, people are already going crazy on the internet, feeling more excited than ever. It is after 8 years of long wait that the fans are finally getting a glimpse of Moana 2. While some fans said that they were so excited about the trailer, others on social media have also questioned its need for a sequel.

In the new film, Auli’iCravalho and Dwayne Johnson will reprise their roles as the voices of Moana and Maui respectively. The newly released trailer does not give away much to the storyline of the film. However, [previously, Disney has given its fans a rough outline of what they will be seeing in the sequel. “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced,” the company revealed. This new animated musical will also take audiences “on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers”, it added. These unlikely seafarers will include Moana’s pet pig Pua and good old rooster Heihei- both of them are seen on the trailer.

In the trailer, as Maui holds the pig and the rooster in each hand, he jokes to Moana that he is looking forward to making “bacon and eggs” on the journey. Several fans of the film, who were mere children back when the first movie was released, will now be full-grown teenagers now, or even adults. Therefore, Disney is now hoping that the film appeals to both the nostalgic audience as well as the brand-new generation of Disney-loving children. After the trailer was released, one fan on social media said, “This looks good. Moana was an amazing film with great songs. I hope this sequel can be on the same level.” Another remarked, “As long as the songs are as iconic as the first, I’m all in.” One fan commented “It looks good but it remains to be seen how good the story is. Cautiously optimistic.”

However, not everyone was pleased with the trailer drop, where one user wrote, “Nobody asked for this.” Another one added, “Disney just can’t stop milking a good movie.” Some movie fans have also commented they would choose to watch Wicked in the theaters instead. Both the movies are due to be released on the same day – 27 November. The first part of Moana made $687m (£540m) at the worldwide box office while scoring two Oscar nominations. So a sequel was previously in the talks for development as a Disney+ series. However, the company surprised fans this February when it revealed that it would make it to the theaters instead.
